  9.  AB    OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the effectiveness of an experimental HIV/AIDS
  10.        teaching strategy for Polish nurses. METHODS: A 3 day HIV/AIDS course
  11.        based on US train-the-trainer models was adapted for use in Poland.
  12.        Anonymous, unmatched, pre- and post course questionnaires measured AIDS
  13.        knowledge, comfort discussing sensitive topics with patients, and
  14.        confidence in ability to provide patients and staff with HIV/AIDS
  15.        information. RESULTS: 22 nurses with supervisory and teaching
  16.        responsibilities at major facilities in Gdansk, Poland, participated in
  17.        the course. Although the level of pre-course knowledge about HIV/AIDS
  18.        was high, significant changes were seen in the nurses' comfort with
  19.        sexual topics and instructional confidence. TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT
  20.        VOLUME. CONCLUSION: Experimental train-the-trainer models can be
  21.        successfully adapted for use in a variety of cultures.
